A week in Northern California

Not southern California. We were supposed to go to San Diego this weekend - to Legoland, to an Aztec football game- but it was on fire. So we stayed here, and pretended like we were on vacation. We let Jackson play hooky from school on Friday, started out at IHOP (mmm, blueberry syrup) and then went to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. It's pretty much your average amusement park, except that it has some wild animals in small enclosures thrown in and some sea animals like Shouka the killer whale. We spent much of the day in the kiddie area. It wasn't too busy, and the kids could go off a ride and right back on if they wanted. It was nice not to have to worry about buying another round of those tickets. Jackson was tall enough to ride the small rides by himself, and insisted on doing so, while we rode along with Ben. Above is Martin on the Harold the Helicopter ride, in Thomas the Tank Engine land. Martin and his mom rode a crazy roller coaster called Medusa and Martin also rode the Boomerang. Nana looked like she needed a drink after that one. I am so proud of her for doing it, but I don't think she's going to do it again anytime soon. At around dusk, mobs of teenagers started arriving for the Halloween Fright Fest and we got out the heck out of there.
